Platoons Forward - Afghanistan

A wonderful program that I have supported for the past couple of years is from the Lenexa VFW Post #7397 called Platoons Forward - Afghanistan. Their purpose is to send needed items to 2/12th Infantry, Baker and Dagger Companies who are at a remote post in Afghanistan and don't have access to Mess Halls and Post Exchanges.
On November 20, 2009 I sponsored the Second Annual Party with a Purpose to benefit our troops. We collected nearly $1,500 and enough donated goods to fill nearly 50 boxes.
My hope is you will join me in support of Platoons Forward by donating throughout the year both money and items. Below is a list of items that would be useful:
- Hygiene items - wipes, soap, razors, shaving cream
- Prepared food - microwave popcorn, Cup of Soup, Ramen Noodles, jerky, canned fruit, soup and chili with pop-top lids
- Candy - gum, hard candy, gummy bears, Skittles
- Snacks - mixed nuts, dried fruit, trail mix, power bars, fruit bars, granola bars
- Ground coffee - creamers and sugar packets
- Boot Socks - sizes 8 - 12, they recommend Under Armor brand
- Hand Warmers - for gunners sitting in open turrets holding the cold metal of their weapons all night
- Books and Magazines - paperback books and outdoor magazines
